Great Shelford FC
Club news : 1st team – halfway there.
So, we are just about half way through the season. How's it gone so far and what are our chances of retaining the Kershaw Premier League title?
After having a nightmare start to the new season with our new, prolific scoring new signing, Shane Roberts incurring a long term injury in only the second game, plans had to be reshuffled a little. So fortunes have been mixed with some good results in what appeared to be difficult games only to throw away the points gained with some shock losses. Our main problem to date has been a certain inconstancy brought about in the main due to the unavailability of players and therefore having to make continual team changes. Having said that we have reached the half way stage in second place. Hundon have a couple of games in hand on level points – but they will lose games. They have some tough battles to come and still have to play us at Woollards lane. Waterbeach look dangerous – also with a game in hand – but they also still have to come to Woollards Lane. There are other teams lurking who can still cause upsets, especially Over and CUP, although the title is probably now beyond them.
So where do we go from here? I know that the manager is still working hard to bring new players to the club to fill a few gaps and cover for this unavailability problem.
Most teams would like to be in our position going into the new year, I think that on our day we are without doubt the best footballing side in the league. I really believe that with some luck, a little more ruthlessness in front of both goals and a real 'will to win' attitude we can still go on and retain the league title, and who knows maybe even win a cup as well!
