Gt Shelford FC 1st team Player Pen Pictures

Sam Beagle. (Goalkeeper). Young ‘keeper who joined the club on loan at the start of the 2007/08 season. Had an outstanding time with us before rejoining CRC where he now has a regular place.

Phil Peachey. (Goalkeeper). Rejoined for his second spell at the club at early in the 2007/08 season. Had to wait for his chance, but now regular 1st choice. Much improved since his last stint with the club.

Jason Mannion. (Defender). Now in his 3rd season at the club. Strong and quick a real wholehearted defender otherwise known as ‘The Mannionator’. Suffered an early season injury this term but now back to his best.

P J Richardson. (Defender). Very experienced player joined us from Sawston this season. Dominant when the ball is in the air and a good ball winner. Fine defensive organiser.

Matt Bonner. (Defender). Matt has been with the club since a youth, and typifies the Gt Shelford spirit. Good in the air and very quick. Loves to drive forward with the ball whenever possible.

Martyn Flack. (Defender). Joined the club in February 2008 after 9 years with Girton. Having to wait his chance for a regular spot but has looked good whenever called upon.

Ricky Woodrow. (Defender). Joined the club at the start of the season from Waterbeach. Came to us having encountered some disciplinary problems at his previous club but has put all that behind him. Good personality plays with lots of enthusiasm and adds to the team spirit.

Darren Bates. (Midfield). Another newcomer who joined us from Sawston this season. Good on the ball, a real goal maker and scores a few as well. Seems to be a favourite with the referees as they keep making a note of his name.

Mark Columbus. (Midfield). Gt Shelford through and through. Combative midfielder, loves a tackle also a dead ball specialist. Works for 90 minutes. Rejoined the club three years ago after a spell at Histon. Has also played at full back.

Chris Smith. (Midfield). First season as skipper, and enjoying his best season since he’s been with the club. Tireless worker. Tackle of the season so far against Needingworth away. Also a prolific goalscorer when asked to play up front.

Jordan Lambert. (Midfield). Another player in his first season with the club, having joined just before the season started from Histon. A real find, can play any position in the back four or in midfield.

Buster Harradine. (Midfield). Joined the club in October from Cambridge University Press. Another set piece specialist and has scored a few. Can be devastating.

Nick Finney.  (Forward). Worries about not scoring enough but is among the top 3 goalscorers in the league. In his 4th season with the club, on his day is unstoppable.

Marlon Bruges. (Forward). Another player to rejoin the club this season. Big and strong in the air and also has considerable skill. Only a couple behind Nick Finney in the scoring charts.

Chris Tovey. Does not play too often now, but always happy to help out when needed. Has played in defence and midfield this season, and can be put on up front when a goal is needed.

Steve Holden. (Player/Manager). Enjoying his first season in management. Prefers to watch from the subs bench but willing to put himself on when needed or when the going gets tough.

Chris Pyke. (Midfield) Young player has just joined the squad, looks to be very talented. Now waiting for his chance to prove himself.

Aiden Litterick. (Forward). Another youngster who signed at the same time as Chris. Looks quick and strong and knows where the goal is.

Sam Tarrent. (Midfield). Has featured several times, but has encountered disciplinary problems which have curtailed his appearances.

Henry Ludlam. (Midfield). Another young player who made several appearances from the bench early on but then broke his wrist, certainly one for the future.

Shane Roberts. (Forward). Joined us during the close season from Sawston where he was a prolific scorer. Received a serious knee injury in our second game of this campaign and has not played since. Thankfully, he is now on the road to recovery after surgery.

Craig Burns. Former reserve team manager, now helps with the 1st team on match days when available. Still likes a game now and again!
