Club news : Looking Forward.
Hopefully most, if not all, of the 2006/07 seasons players will stay with the club. Whatever happens I'm sure we'll see some new faces helping to run things and some new players in the club's colours.
The first team have the task of not only aiming to retain the Premier League title, but also show some improved cup form. It could be said that it was lucky that their dip in form came during last years' cup campaign, going out of all three competitions in the first round. Of course if those three defeats had been in league games we'd only have won the title by three points!
The Reserve team proved that their upturn in form during the second half of the season was no fluke by going on to win the Foster Cup. I'm sure that they'll be hoping to carry that form forward and be in the push for promotion. It's most important to get them closer in status to the first team. This would mean that reserve team players would be more able to step up when ready.
In a way the same applies to the 'A' team. Having finished fourth in their first season in mens football, we need to give the team every opportunity of promotion this time around. They proved their capabilities by winning the Reg Haigh & Arthur Peck cup. However it could be made more interesting when we consider that we fully expect several 'A' team players to be promoted to the reserves.
The club is also desperately seeking new sponsors to help our finances. Either by way of banner advertising at home games, names advertised on kit, playing kit or tracksuits etc. Or simply by donations to the club. We also need volunteers to become part of the club and help in any way possible. There really are a multitude of tasks which need attention!
So, all in all, interesting times ahead. Watch this space!
